Christian Watson being on the PUP list didn’t prevent the Green Bay Packers from remaining loyal to their injured receiver.

This week, the Packers gave Watson a new one-year, $13.25 deal despite the fourth year player’s recovery from the ACL injury he suffered in week 18 of last season.

It’s a refreshing sign of loyalty in an industry that doesn’t always value it.

Just ask Watson’s new teammate, Micah Parsons, about that.

“There’s kind of a timeline with these ACLs,” said Packers GM Brian Gutekunst last month. “He’s ahead of the curve, no doubt about it, but, at the same time, he’s got a long career in front of him so we’re going to make sure we don’t skip any steps along the way. More than likely he’ll start the year on PUP.”

Watson was selected 34th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft and made an immediate impact, with 41 receptions for 611 yards and 7 TDs.

The next season, he battled a hamstring injury and only played in 9 games, catching 29 passes for 472 yards and 5 TDs. Last season he played in 15 games, catching 29 passes for 620 yards and only 2 TDs.

Watson is working to return to play soon, and if he heals up, he will be eligible to play against the Cincinnati Bengals on October 12th.
