After a highly controversial year and long season, the Ohio State Buckeyes are one of
the two remaining teams left in the college football playoffs.
On Monday night, they will take on Notre Dame in the first year of the College Football Playoff’s expanded field.
There are a few interesting storylines surrounding the game, including the Irish’s Marcus Freeman trying to become the first Black coach in FBS history to win a national championship.
For the Buckeyes, the big question before the playoffs was what would happen to Ohio State head coach Ryan Day, which only came because he dropped his fourth straight game to Michigan.
It’s a ridiculous question to even ponder because the Buckeyes have, arguably, the most talented team in the nation, and Day led them to a 10-2 regular season record and 3-0 in the CFP.
Yet the years of losing to Michigan ridiculously overshadows his career 69-10 record at Ohio State for far too many.
But now, at 13-2 and with only the biggest game of the season remaining, some are holding their tongues to see what happens on Monday night.
The Buckeyes are loaded this year, with star-studded talent such as Caleb Downs, Jeremiah Smith, Treveyon Henderson, Cody Simon, and many more.
After crushing no. 7 Tennessee and no.1 Oregon and then beating no. 4 Texas, the Buckeyes have shown that the loss to Michigan was just a blip on the screen and a loss that had no real meaning outside of the traditional rivalry the two share.
Looking at the Championship game, it’s clear that Ohio State has the better team and should be able to beat Notre Dame’s much-heralded defense.
So when the confetti pours down later tonight, expect it to be grey, scarlet and white.
