OKC Thunder superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is betting on himself.
This week, NBA reporter Chris Haynes reported that Shai, the leading MVP candidate, fired his agent, Thad Foucher of Wasserman Group, and will be representing himself in his NBA contract negotiations.
It comes as a bit of a shock as Gilgeous-Alexander is eligible for a $300 million contract extension this summer, which means that he would want to have the best person/team in place to ensure he gets all that he can.
In this case, the 3x NBA All-Star is taking a page from athletes such as Joel Embiid and Lamar Jackson and shifting to self-representation. If you can’t bet on yourself, who can you bet on, right?
Shai currently leads the best team in the league at 44-10, should be the league MVP if he continues playing the way he has, and will be the team to beat in the postseason.
While he will represent himself in the contract negotiations, he retains current management for all of his off the court deals.
