The warning signs have been there all season, but after two ugly back-to-back losses against UCLA and Northwestern, Penn State decided it was time to part ways with head coach, James Franklin.
So on Sunday afternoon, they let Franklin know that, after 12 years, they were moving on.
After taking over the program in 2014, he rebuilt the Nittany Lions into a respectable program again after the scandal covered up by legendary coach, Joe Paterno.
Unfortunately, Franklin was criticized for never being able to win the big games despite have winning records in 11 of the 12 years he was at the helm at Penn State.
Last season, he led the team to a 13-3 record and the semifinal game in the College Football Playoff where they lost to Marcus Freeman and Notre Dame.
This season started with much promise, but after three consecutive losses, the latter two coming to unranked teams, the decision was clear.
Franklin leaves Happy Valley with a record of 104-45 and one College Football Playoff appearance.
