In a shocking trade, the New Orleans Pelicans have acquired Jordan Poole, Saddiq Bey, and the No. 40 pick in exchange for CJ McCollum, Kelly Olynyk and a future second-round pick.
In this trade, the Pelicans aim to get younger as they get two players who are 26 years old and move on from 33-year-old CJ McCollum.
Last season Poole led his team in scoring, averaging 20.5 ppg while adding in 4.5 apg and 3.0 rpg.
The Pelicans now hold two first-round picks in Wednesday’s NBA Draft (7 and 23).
For the Wizards, who hold picks 6 and 18, they get a productive McCollum, who averaged 21.1 ppg along with 3.8 rpg and 4.1 apg. He’s also an expiring contract, which pushes Washington’s available cap space closer to $100 million in 2026.
Kelly Olynyk averaged 10.7 ppg and 5.9 rpg.
This appears to help both teams as the Pelicans get younger and the Wizards get a veteran who is still very productive.
