The New York Jets and star wide receiver Garrett Wilson have agreed on a 4-year, $130 million contract extension with $90 million guaranteed.
This deal marks the first time in NFL history that a wide receiver has received over $31 million annually after only playing three seasons.
Wilson was drafted by the Jets in 2022 with the 10th pick in the draft. Since being drafted, he has been a model of consistency in the NFL as he has reached at least 1,000 yards in every season so far.
He also joins Odell Beckham, Michael Thomas, Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase as the only receivers in NFL history to have three straight seasons of at least 80 receptions, 1,000 receiving yards and 3 TDs to start a career.
Last season, Wilson had a career high with 101 receptions, 1,104 yards, and seven touchdowns.
Although Garrett Wilson has been very productive and elite in many ways, the organization has been unable to find a quarterback to consistently get him the ball the way he should.
Since entering the league, Wilson has caught passes from seven different quarterbacks in just three seasons, so he hasn’t be able to develop chemistry in the offense.
However, that should change this season after being reunited with fellow Ohio State Buckeye QB Justin Fields, whom the Jets signed after he spent one pretty successful season in Pittsburgh.
Signing Wilson to a long-term deal is a major step in the right direction for New York, but more needs to be done to mold the team into a playoff contender.
