The Milwaukee Bucks and Myles Turner agreed on a 4-year $107 million contract that includes a player option in the 2028-29 season, the final year of the contract.
This news came on the heels of the Bucks releasing guard Damian Lillard, who is recovering from a torn Achilles.
To sign Turner, the Bucks needed to clear salary cap space, leading to the Bucks waiving Lillard and stretching his money over the next few years.
Now fans are wondering about the franchise and Giannis’ future with the team, especially after a first-round playoff exit this past season.
Signing a productive player like Turner helps to address the questions about the franchise’s direction and help to convince Giannis to stay in Milwaukee.
With the Celtics and Pacers having their star players both out for extended periods of time due to Achilles injuries, teams like the Knicks, Magic, Hawks and Bucks can make a run to the NBA Finals with a few key moves.
By signing Turner, Milwaukee secured a good player, fills the void left by the departing Brook Lopez and took a key player away from the Pacers, who were one win away from winning an NBA title in June.
Last season Turner averaged 15.6 ppg and 6.5 rpg for Indiana.
It will be interesting to see what other moves the Bucks make before the upcoming season starts but acquiring Myles Turner may have been the biggest news so far in the free agency period.
