Fred VanVleet and the Houston Rockets have agreed on a two-year, $50 million contract extension.
This is a great deal for both parties as VanVleet gets a longer stay in a familiar setting as he’s been with the team since 2023, and it’s with a team that just added Kevin Durant.
And the Rockets get to lock in a productive veteran guard at a reasonable price.
This past season VanVleet averaged 14.1 ppg. Although that’s the lowest since the 2018-19 season, he can contribute to this Rockets team as a reliable scoring option and a leader.
After signing with the Rockets in 2023, he helped the team go from 22 to 41 wins.
The next season, Vanvleet helped the Rockets win 56 games and the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference.
And despite a first round playoffs loss, it still was a great season.
Houston has remained active. They Extended Steven Adams and head coach Ime Udoka and then added Durant all in recent weeks.
This move to extend VanVleet continues the Rockets upbeat offseason and makes them a serious contended for an NBA Championship.
