49ers’ Fred Warner Out For Season After Gruesome Ankle Injury

One of the league's best is out for the year.

On Sunday afternoon, Fred Warner suffered a gruesome ankle injury in the 49ers game against the Bucs and was eventually carted off the field while wearing an air cast on his right foot.

Replays showed the severity of the injury, and after San Francisco’s 30-19 loss to Tampa Bay, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed what most already knew.

Warner dislocated and fractured his ankle and would require season-ending surgery.

It was another devastating injury to a consistently banged up 49ers team that can’t seem to shake the injury bug. The team had already lost Nick Bosa for the season after he suffered a torn ACL in week 3.

But the loss of Warner, their All-Pro linebacker and leader of the team, is a player whose presence can’t be replaced due to his impact on the field and in the locker room.

Warner has been one of the best linebackers in the game over the past seven seasons. Since entering the league in 2018, he’s become a 4x Pro Bowler with First-Team All-Pro honors each time.

Up until today, Warner had evade the injury bug, only missing one single game in 2021.

Now the team will have to regroup and find a new leader while Warner recovers from his ankle injury.

Wishing Fred Warner the best!
