Auburn To Retire Cam Newton’s No.2 Jersey

A fitting tribute for the Tigers' great.

In a moment that will cement his legacy amongst the greatest to ever wear the orange and blue, Auburn University will officially retire Cam Newton’s jersey on October 11th.

Newton’s no. 2 jersey has not been worn since he left the field after defeating Oregon in the 2011 BCS National Championship Game in 2011.

That season will go down in the history books for both Cam and Auburn. He won the Heisman trophy, led the Tigers to a perfect 14-0 record and helped Auburn win its first national title in over 50 years (1957 was the last year).

The Tigers’ QB dominated college football in the 2010 season, accounting for 50 total touchdowns and 4,369 total yards.

“Auburn will always be home to me,” said Cam after learning his jersey was to be retired. “The national championship we won in 2010 was a special moment and to have my jersey retired alongside legends like Pat Sullivan, Bo Jackson, and Terry Beasley is an incredible honor that I’ll cherish forever. War Eagle!”
