The Oklahoma City Thunder and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander have agreed on a massive 4-year $285 million supermax extension.
This new deal will keep the NBA MVP in OKC through the 2030-31 season, where the superstar guard will be making in excess of $71 million a year, which is the highest single season average in NBA history.
This enormous contract followed a great season for Shai and the Thunder as he led them to their first championship in franchise history.
In route to the Thunder’s first championship Gilgeous-Alexander had a season to remember. He won regular-season MVP, the regular-season NBA scoring title, the Western Conference Finals MVP, and Finals MVP.
During his incredible run, he averaged 32.7 ppg along with 6.4 apg, and 5.0 rpg.
This comes is a great deal for the Thunder as they lockdown their young, 26-year-old superstar for the foreseeable future, which means they are in championship contention for years to come.
Looking forward, the Thunder are set to make another run as all the core pieces are returning and they have draft capital to make moves if needed.
Securing Shai Gilgeous-Alexander this off-season was the biggest priority for OKC. Now they can focus on the supporting cast.
