On Wednesday evening, Shai Gilgeous Alexander, star guard for the Oklahoma City Thunder, won his first NBA MVP.
This season, Shai led the league scoring 32.7 points per game on 51.9% shooting from the field. He also averaged 5 rebounds and 6.4 assists per game.
The league’s leading scorer was in close contention with reigning MVP Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets.
But after the historic season Shai put forth this year, the award was his.
Not only did he lead his team to the best record in the league, 18 more than the Nuggets, this season marked the third straight year that Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 30 or more points per game.
Shai now joins elite company as he is one of the very few players to ever lead the league in scoring, win an MVP and average 30 points per game.
That puts him in a club with Michael Jordan and select other few.
SGA is currently on the hunt for his, and the team’s first NBA title. Standing in his way are 7 wins.
But so far, the 2024-25 NBA MVP is on the right path to achieving the dream of winning an NBA Championship.
