Many Steelers fans were hoping that the team would re-sign Justin Fields, especially after trading for star receiver, DK Metcalf.
On Monday afternoon, that hope was dashed as the Jets swooped in and snatched up the underappreciated quarterback on a two-year deal worth $40 million, with $30 million guaranteed.
Fields, who was in Dubai at the time, celebrated the deal with a big dinner surrounded by friends.
It was the culmination of another long year for Fields, which began as the Steelers starting QB and a 4-2 record. It then fizzled as Russell Wilson took over and Fields was relegated to the bench, even as the team lost five straight games.
Fields has loads of talent that Chicago squandered and the Steelers didn’t fully appreciate.
But now the new $40 million man will head to the bright lights of New York to rejuvenate a franchise that has been a basement dweller for many years.
With a new head coach and the environment cultured by Aaron Rodgers gone, the team and fans are hoping Fields will be a major part of the team’s quest to win again.
Good luck Justin. You deserve it!
