After starting off scorching hot, the Arizona Wildcats have been handed their first loss at the hands of the Kansas Jayhawks, 82-78, ending a string of 23 straight wins to start the season, the second longest win streak in DI Men’s basketball.
The Monday night thriller was led by the Jayhawks Flory Bidunga, who went off for 23 points and snatched 10 rebounds.
Bidunga was joined by Melvin Council Jr., who poured in 23 points of his own while dishing out 6 assists and 6 rebounds.
Four Jayhawks players ended up posting double digits as Bryson Tiller (18 points) and Jamari McDowell (10 points) joined in.
The Jayhawks win was even more impressive as they were without star freshman Darryn Peterson due to flu-like symptoms. Peterson has missed 11 games due to health and injury complications.
Despite being undermanned, Kansas fought all night and took the lead around the 9:30 second mark of the second half.
Arizona pulled within a point with under a minute remaining but ultimately came up short.
So the Wildcats will look to start a new winning streak when they host Texas Tech, while the Jayhawks look to continue their winning ways against Iowa State.
