The New York Knicks knocked off the San Antonio Spurs 124-113 to win the NBA Cup Championship.
The win marked the first major title the Knicks have won in 52 years, spanning back to their NBA Finals Championship in 1973.
OG Anunoby led the charge in the title game with 28 points. Throughout the game he hit timely shots and drained 5 of 10 three pointers.
Superstar point guard Jalen Brunson added in 25 points of his own along with 8 assists.
This matchup was close until the final quarter where New York limited the Spurs to 19 points, a stifling defense that helped them push the lead from which they never looked back.
The Spurs were led by rookie guard Dylan Harper (21 points), but that was pretty much the highlight of the night for San Antonio.
Despite the loss in the Cup Championship, the Spurs displayed great depth and energy, showing that even though they’re young, they have the talent to compete with the best in the league.
While it’s not an NBA title, winning the Cup Championship should give the Knicks some momentum as the season rolls. More importantly, it gives fans a title to be excited about while they wait for the big one that they hope Brunson and company will deliver in June.
